There are really only three alternatives that exist today for ISOs desiring to offer their merchants an Internet Transaction processing solution:

1. Deploy your company's Transaction Gateway in-house.
This option could cost you approximately $100,000 to $250,000 for initial setup plus the annual upgrades and maintenance fees. There are monthly recurring fees for dedicated leased lines to the processing network(s). In addition, you must consider the costs of your new technology staff to run the servers. You shoulder the complete burden of deployment and support. Return on investment is not realized until you have a very high volume of merchants on the system.

2. Resell from an existing Transaction Gateway provider.
There are quite a few providers offering varying degrees of Gateway products and services. The typical model is usually very complicated requiring merchants to either be knowledgable in programming or hire a contractor to set it up for them. Most often the Gateway provider requires that you, the reseller, provide end user deployment as well as 1st tier support.
